Live stream production software for Mac

Run the
whole show
from one Mac.

I have worked in live streaming for more than ten years. When I moved from Windows to the Mac I couldn't find the live production software I needed, so I built it. InterDirector is a native Mac console for running a multi-camera show on your own: switching, audio, graphics, streaming, recording and instant replay in one app.

Why it exists

Made for the Mac.

Live streaming is a core part of my business, and I have done it for over a decade. When I moved from Windows to the Mac I found a gap where my live production software used to be, and InterDirector is what I built to fill it. It has one developer and no big company behind it, so it grows at one person's pace and does not do everything the largest Windows tools do.

Native, start to finish

Swift and Metal on Apple Silicon. The picture is composited on the GPU, sound runs through Core Audio, and streams are encoded by the Mac's own media engine.

Tested on long shows

I have tested InterDirector thoroughly on broadcasts that run for many hours. If you find a bug and tell me, I will fix it as soon as I can. Good ideas are welcome too, and some end up in the app. Write to info@interdirector.com.

Paid for by the people who use it

There are no investors. InterDirector will be paid software, and buying a licence pays directly for its development.

Switching

Preview, Program, and transitions

Cut, Fade, Fade to Black and Dip, a T-bar, and a clean fullscreen Program on any display your Mac detects.

The Preview and Program monitors with the Cut, Fade, Dip and T-bar controls between them.
What's inside

One app for the whole desk.

The parts of a live desk a solo operator uses, in one place, without a stack of separate tools.

The input cards under their colour tabs, All sources, Replay, Cameras and Graphics: four track cameras, a picture in picture, the schedule, the lower third and the ticker, with Program’s and Preview’s tally borders on two cameras.
Inputs

Thirteen kinds of input

NDI, network streams from your network or over the internet, USB and UVC capture, Blackmagic capture, Core Audio devices, web pages, other apps’ windows, image carousels and media playlists, plus Overlay, Replay and Statistics inputs. Combine any of them into a Composite that switches like a camera.

The audio mixer: a strip for each source with its balance, fader, meter and peak hold, its FX, its routing to Master and bus A, and buttons to mute it, have it follow Program and solo it, the muted ones dimmed with their speakers crossed out; then Master, the To PA bus returned to Master, and the Solo / Monitor strip playing Master.
Audio

Up to eight stereo buses. VST3 on every path.

Route each source to Master and up to eight buses you name, add Apple Silicon VST3 effects to sources and buses, and line up cameras and microphones with per-input sync delay.

A lower third’s settings beside Program, where it is on air: its package, Lower Third 2 Lines, with its thumbnail, and its Name and Tagline reading from the running order.
Overlays

Graphics that update themselves

HTML overlays for lower thirds, tickers and logos, bound to CSV or JSON data, with countdowns, clocks and stopwatches typed straight into any text.

The Streaming window with Facebook open beside the list of destinations: its RTMP server, its stream key and its own encoding switched off, so it shares the stream’s.
Outputs

Stream, record, send

RTMP, RTMPS and SRT, in H.264 or HEVC, to several destinations from one encode. Program out to any connected display, over NDI and out of a Blackmagic device. Record Program, and record armed inputs to their own files.

Program with the Superbike lower third, beside the Replay panel’s Overtakes bucket of four clips.
Replay

Instant replay

Keep the last minute of Program, capture the moment, and play it back in slow motion or at normal speed, over Program or instead of it.

Ten coloured hotkeys, from Cam 1 to Cut mark, each with what it does and a Duplicate and a Delete button: put a camera in Preview, cut, fade, take the lower third, step the running order, capture a replay, mark a cut.
Control

Hotkeys, Stream Deck, automations

Put any of 68 show actions on a key or a Stream Deck button, with a plug-in that shows state, and write rules that say: when this happens, do that.

Every feature, in detail All of it, in one list

Reliability

Built for the long shift.

Things go wrong on live shows, and there is no second take. This is what InterDirector does when they do.

  • Sources come back on their own

A camera, capture device or NDI sender that drops is retried until it returns, and its card says it is retrying.

  • Recordings survive a crash

Files are written in one-second fragments, so a power cut keeps everything up to the last second.

  • Outputs fail on their own

A stalled stream does not stop the recording, and neither touches Program.

  • Your Show stays safe

Autosave keeps a Last Show copy that is offered again at launch, and a damaged file opens with a list of what was repaired.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

Is InterDirector a vMix alternative?

vMix is Windows software. InterDirector is a native Mac app that covers the parts of that workflow a Mac operator needs: NDI-based switching, audio, graphics, streaming, recording and replay. It is not a clone, it does not open vMix projects, and as one developer's app it does not do everything vMix does. How it compares with vMix and four others.

What does it cost?

It is free to try for 14 days on each Mac, with everything unlocked and no card needed. Then a licence is €40 a month, or €100 every 3 months, VAT included, covers two Macs, and renews until you cancel, which you can do any time. Buy a licence.

Which Macs and which macOS?

Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. Intel Macs are not supported.

What capture hardware does it support?

NDI sources on your network, USB capture that macOS exposes as a camera (a capture card such as the Elgato Cam Link is one example), and Blackmagic capture devices through Blackmagic's Desktop Video software.

Can I use my VST3 plug-ins?

Yes: Apple Silicon native VST3 effects, on sources and on buses. Instruments are not supported.

How does it get updates?

InterDirector checks for signed updates the moment it starts and every hour while it is open, and installs one only when you say. It never checks while you are streaming, recording or sending NDI.
